The McArthur choir was established in 2008 at the Faculty of Education to provide undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty, with an opportunity to teach and learn music together in an inclusive, non-auditioned ensemble. In a community-building effort, students and staff came together to sing a wide variety of choral repertoire that ranged from folk songs to contemporary settings from both Western and non-Western musical traditions.
In the 2010-11 season, the McArthur singers participated in the Remembrance Day service held at the Faculty of Education. In addition, the choir performed at the Gateway Conference in the spring to a large audience of students and staff. The rehearsals for the group involved a weekly commitment and focused on creating an engaging environment wherein all members were encouraged to contribute their ideas in the process of music-making.
