This program is designed for practicing artists in visual art, music, drama and creative writing who wish to pursue a range of career possibilities in education. Graduates of this program are engaged in a variety of careers ranging from full-time classroom teaching to full or part time work in community or corporate-based arts organizations.
ACE provides a unique opportunity for artists to study arts education and learn from one another while achieving a Bachelor of Education degree. Upon graduating, candidates in the program are awarded a degree from the Faculty of Education and certification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
As Canadian arts and accompanying industries grow, the landscape of arts education shifts and new possibilities emerge. In addition to qualifying graduates to teach in the regular school system, this program offers opportunities to investigate new vistas, explore related arts areas and to consider the impact of schooling and the arts. Individuals in this program come from varied artistic disciplines ready to apply their already developed skills to the classroom and the academic environment. Here, teacher candidates shape philosophies, strategies and expertise in arts education which will benefit both the artist and his or her community.
