Founded originally in 1907, the Faculty of Education at Queen's University has graduated more than 23,000 teachers and education professionals who are now working around the world.
Our mission is to develop progressive, ethical, competent, and thoughtful leaders in education through teaching, research, and professional collaboration.
Our Bachelor of Education / Diploma in Education programs are distinguished today by the variety of special options that they offer.
Degree Programs
Concurrent Education (Queen’s, Queen’s-Trent, and Queen’s-Waterloo). Selected applicants are admitted to this program after completing their secondary school diploma and are awarded both a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts and Science after five years of study.
Consecutive Education with optional program tracks in Outdoor and Experiential Education, Artist in Community Education, Aboriginal Teacher Education, Aboriginal Teacher Education Community-Based, and Technological Education. Applicants to Consecutive Education must hold an undergraduate degree.
Diploma Programs
Technological Education. This program requires applicants to hold a secondary school diploma and have a minimum of five years of experience in the broad-based technology they wish to teach (or a suitable combination of education and experience as specified in the admission policy).
Aboriginal Teacher Education Community-Based. This program requires applicants to hold a secondary school diploma and be of Aboriginal ancestry.
The Faculty offers both a Master’s of Education and a Master's of Education in Aboriginal and World Indigenous Studies. Our doctoral program offers a PhD in Education in three fields: Curriculum Studies, Cognitive Studies, and Cultural and Policy Studies.
Through its Continuing Teacher Education Office, the Faculty actively supports and assists education professionals in their ongoing professional development by offering a large selection of Additional Qualification and Additional Basic Qualification courses, as well as the Principals' Qualifications Program. Offered both on-line and on-site, the course offerings are designed to permit broad flexibility.
As part of a leading research institution, the Faculty is recognized for its integration of technology in teaching, learning, research and administration. We are a research-intensive faculty offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in education. Our faculty members conduct research in cognitive processes in learning, language, arts education, mathematics literacy, assessment and evaluation, history of education, issues of inclusivity, and cultural contexts among other areas.
Queen's Faculty of Education was the first education faculty to create a placement office (re-named Education Career Services) for its teacher candidates and it continues to offer a broad range of career-related activities. Queen's hosts an annual Teachers' Overseas Recruiting Fair for Queen's teacher candidates, alumni, and other Canadian teachers interested in an international teaching experience.

from the urban centres of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
